FolioPress (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the website foliopress.online (the “Site”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal data when you use our Site.
By using the Site, you consent to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

Information you provide directly:
- Account registration: Display name, email address, and password when you create an account.
- Comments: Your display name and comment content when you post comments on stories.
- Contact form: Your name, email address, and message when you contact us.
Information collected automatically:
- Usage data: Pages visited, stories read, reading progress (how far you scroll through a story), social share button clicks, and interaction timestamps.
- Device data: Browser type, operating system, screen resolution, and device type.
- Log data: IP address, access times, and referring URLs.
- Cookies: Session cookies for authentication and preference cookies for theme settings (dark/light mode). See Section 6 for details.
Information from third parties:
- Google Analytics: Anonymized usage statistics including pages visited, session duration, geographic region, reading milestones (whether you started or completed a story), share interactions, and registration funnel steps. We use Google Analytics 4, which does not store personally identifiable information. Analytics tracking is only enabled after you provide consent via our cookie banner.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your personal data for the following purposes:
- Account management: To create and manage your user account, verify your email, and process password resets.
- Content delivery: To display stories, anthologies, and personalised recommendations based on your reading history.
- Communication: To send you account-related emails (verification, password reset) and, if you opt in, notifications about new stories.
- Site improvement: To understand how readers use the Site, identify popular content, and improve the reading experience.
- Security: To detect and prevent fraud, spam, and unauthorised access (including rate limiting and honeypot protection on forms).
- Legal compliance: To comply with applicable laws and respond to lawful requests from authorities.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data to third parties.
3. Legal Basis for Processing
Under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDPA) 2023:
- We process your data based on your consent, provided when you create an account and agree to this policy.
- You may withdraw consent at any time by deleting your account (see Section 7).
Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):
- Consent: For cookies and analytics tracking (via our cookie consent banner).
- Contractual necessity: For account creation and service delivery.
- Legitimate interest: For security measures (rate limiting, fraud prevention) and site improvement.
4. Data Storage and Retention
- Your data is stored on servers provided by Hostinger, with data centres located in India. Automated backups are stored in Singapore.
- Account data is retained for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal data is removed within 30 days.
- Unverified accounts are automatically deleted after 72 hours.
- Reading history and usage data is retained for as long as your account exists to provide personalised features.
- Server logs are retained for 90 days for security purposes, then automatically deleted.
5. Data Sharing
We share your data only with the following categories of service providers, solely for the purposes described:

We do not share your data with advertisers, data brokers, or any other third parties for marketing purposes.
In the future, when we introduce premium content purchases, payment processing will be handled by Razorpay. At that time, this policy will be updated to reflect the additional data shared with Razorpay (name, email, payment details). Razorpay’s privacy policy governs their handling of payment data — we never store card numbers, UPI IDs, or bank details on our servers.

- Grievance redressal: File a complaint with our Grievance Officer (see Section 10) or with the Data Protection Board of India.
Additional rights under GDPR (EU residents):
- Data portability: Receive your data in a machine-readable format.
- Restriction: Request restriction of processing in certain circumstances.
- Object: Object to processing based on legitimate interest.
- Lodge a complaint: File a complaint with your local Data Protection Authority.

8. Children’s Privacy
The Site is not intended for children under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make significant changes, we will notify registered users via email and update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
Your continued use of the Site after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
